About

Geographical Indication (GI) refers to a type of intellectual property that designates products as originating from a specific geographic area and possessing distinct qualities or characteristics associated with that region. Its purpose is to safeguard against unauthorised use of the geographic name, enable consumers to identify and distinguish genuine products and contribute to the area's economic development.
At present, India boasts a repertoire of 483 GI products as per the official data. This map tries to give you a glimpse into the vast number of GIs prevalent in India by taking you on an explorative journey across the states and exploring 130 selected GIs.
