The latest data from Gujarat state agriculture department shows that farmers have sown sesame in 1.07 lakh hectares. It is an 85 per cent increase over the last year’s average sowing area of 58,291 lakh hectors. Saurashtra has reported the largest sowing area of the crop with farmers having planted sesame in 1.01 lakh hector. South Gujarat districts have reported sesame sowing in 2,400 hectares, followed by 1700 hectors in north Gujarat, 1200 hectors in central Gujarat and 1100 hectors in Kutch.
